Letter-writing campaign
Write a letter.
Tell them why.
Each family sends one letter to at least three people from the list below. Pick the template closest to your family's experience, add your story, and send it in your own name. Thirteen different letters from many families reads as broad, genuine support; one letter copied a hundred times is easier to set aside.
Before you send
Board members read hundreds of letters. These are the ones that get read and quoted.
- Pick one template. Choose the focus that matters most to you.
- Write your story. The bracketed story section matters most. Two or three specific sentences beat a long paragraph.
- Make it yours. Change the subject line, cut what doesn't fit, reword freely. Fill or delete every [bracket].
- Keep it to one page.
- Stay warm and specific. Respectful letters that ask for concrete things get read. Anger gets skimmed.
- Send it to at least three people from the list below, from your own email, one at a time. Don't BCC a group.
